How to Test Your Mic Online?
1. Unblock Your Mic in the Browser
If you notice a blocked mic icon in the address bar, it means your browser is preventing access.
- Click on the blocked mic icon.
- A popup will appear stating that access to the microphone is blocked.
- Select “Always allow access to the microphone.”
- Click Done and refresh the page.
Now, speak into the mic. If you see sound waves moving, your mic is working perfectly! 🎤
2. Enable Microphone Access in Browser Settings
If the microphone still doesn’t work, manually enable mic access in your browser settings:
- Open Chrome Settings
- Search for Microphone
- Go to Site Settings > Microphone
- Select the correct microphone from the dropdown
Now, retry the mic test!
3. Grant Mic Permission on macOS
On macOS, microphone access may be disabled at the system level. To enable it:
- Open System Preferences
- Select Security & Privacy
- Click Microphone and allow access for your browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari).
Once enabled, retry the test to check if the mic is working.
4. Testing an External Microphone
If you’re using an external mic, test it on other apps like Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime.
If the mic doesn’t work across different apps, check:
✅ Is the mic plugged into the correct port?
✅ Are the cables properly connected?
✅ Is the device driver updated?
Update Mic Drivers on macOS:
Click Apple Menu > About This Mac > Software Update
Update Mic Drivers on Windows:
- Open Control Panel > Device Manager
- Go to Audio Inputs & Outputs
- Select Microphone Array
- Click Update Driver
5. Company Device Restrictions
If you’re using a work laptop, microphone access might be blocked due to security policies.
Contact your IT team to enable mic access for third-party websites.
6. Reinstall the Browser Extension
If you’re using a browser extension for mic recording and it’s not working, try reinstalling it:
- Click the three-dot menu in Chrome
- Select More Tools > Extensions
- Find the extension and click Remove
- Reinstall it and restart your browser
Now, retry the microphone test!
